In this session MP Coaching guest specialist striker coach Steve Guppy brings us further detail on the fine art of creating shooting opportunities and the more intricate technical details that make all the difference in your approach, set up, and execution when in goalscoring positions.
Steve talks and demonstrates in detail about fine aspects such as minimal (2) touches, ball placement, movement to meet the ball and getting a high-quality shot away.
A fantastic example of Steves diligence and detail in coaching can be found early on in the film where he demonstrates placement (Ball Parallel to Goal), biomechanics (Shoulders Parallel and extended range of movement and leverage in the hip), technical percentage weighting (Creating a position of maximal surface area contact for the shot over different styles of shot).
This particular drill also displays the stages of learning starting with a static ball at a short distance and progressing to a moving ball over a longer distance and ultimately creating increasing game scenario realism. Steve also promotes self-reflection in a kinaesthetic environment where he asks the players to think and to self-coach as the session develops, all great practices and coaching styles to maximise player learning and development.
An outstanding example of how simple sessions with extended detail bode for quality sessions and how quality over quantity and variety will develop players at a far more competent and consistent rate.
